I'm pleased to share a text that the art historian, Mónica Gutierrez del Palacio, has written after her visit to my last exhibition at Menier Gallery, in which I showed three new oil paintings from the series 'Looking at Art'.
'Past is present'
EGF's latest work, 'Looking at Art', presents a new approach to oil painting through her reinterpretation of reality inspired by both, how people look at art today and her awareness of Old Masters as a source of inspiration for contemporary artists.
The artist uses her camera to capture particular moments of people looking at art in public spaces. These photos become a powerful source of inspiration in her studio, where they are carefully transformed into oil paintings that create a parallel between art and life. Elena's paintings reflect spaces of quietness and stillness that hold a poetic element, inviting us to meditate and create our own narrative.
The way in which different periods come together in Elena's painting titled 'Remwhat?' might have appealed to William Blake.
